Plastic Investment regions on the anvil

Mumbai, Oct 28 (UNI) With a view to ensure exponential growth of the plastic sector, the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers is working out proposals for the creation of investment regions with world class infrastructure and other linkages.

It was revealed by the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs B K Handique while addressing the awards function and seminar of Plastic Export Promotion Council (PLEXCOUNCIL) here today.

He said that the Central Government was proposing vcarious measures to enhance the competitiveness of the plastic processing industry through several initiatives. ''I would like the industry to make all efforts to increase the competitiveness and quality of the plastic products and aim at the export of value added products,'' he said. Also, the Minister urged the plastic entrepreneurs to set up dedicated plastic export parks.

Sharing his views with the Minister, Chairman of Plastic Exports Promotion Council, R C Lohia, gave a call to the plastic entrepreneurs to act fast and see that the exports of value added plastic items takes a front seat to actually give a further quantum boost to exports from the country's plastic industry.

Exports awards were presented by the Minister for top export performance during the years 2004-05 and 2005-06 for 46 categories of products on the occasion to recognise and honour top exporters of plastic products from the country.
