MCD urged Monitoring Commission to defer sealing drive

New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi today urged the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee to defer the proposed sealing drive in the capital from November 1 in view of the volatile law and order situation in the capital.

Sources in the Corporation said the MCD Commissioner, in a communication with the monitoring committee, urged that the sealing drive be postponed as the law and order situation in Delhi was not conducive for it.

The Supreme Court has directed that all the traders who have filed affidavits in the court to close down their units by June 30 should wind up their operations by October 31 and that the sealing of these units be done as well as those under the negative list mentioned in the September 7 Urban Development Ministry notification.

Today's communication follows the traders announcing a three day Delhi bandh from October 30 in protest against the proposed sealing drive as well as their decision to gherao the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
