Chennai, Oct 28 (UNI) Condemning the DMK Government for ''being complacent about the flood situation prevailing in Tamil Nadu,'' AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today urged it to undertake relief measures for the affected people on a warfooting.

In a statement here, she said neither Chief Minister M Karunanidhi nor State Ministers had shown concern for those affected by the heavy rains. Even Government officials concerned and police personnel had totally neglected relief measures, she alleged.

She said heavy downpour and gale winds at a speed of 120 kmph were being reported at Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district. But fishermen had ventured into the sea as the administration had failed to issue a cyclone warning, she added.

Due to the State Government's indifference and complacency, the plight of innocent fishermen in mid-sea was not known, Ms Jayalalithaa said and added that the Government should own responsibility, if their lives were endangered.

The AIADMK supremo said the State Government had bungled even in announcing holidays for school children in view of the heavy rains.

As the announcment came much after the children reached their schools, the students and their parents were subjected to untold hardships while returning home, she added.
