Encouraging progress in implementation of NREGA in Tripura
Agartala, Oct 28 (UNI) There has been encouraging progress in implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(NREGA) in the state so far.
Talking to UNI, a senior state government official of the state Government has said that jobs has been provided to 1,89,025 persons out of a total demand of 1,91,185. Jobs card has been issued to 64,587 persons, the official added.
He said due to shortage of jobs cards, identifications slips has been provided to all the registered persons seeking employment under the NREGA. ''We will receive more job cards from Government Printing Press by the first week of November. In lieu of the job cards we are providing the ID cards to all the persons seeking employment,'' said the official.
The official said that 71,491 registrations has already been done. ''We expect the number to go up every time,'' he added.
The Union Government has released an amount of Rs 1456.66 lakh to the state under NREGA in the current financial year, added the official.
It may be noted that Dhalai is the only district to be included under the NREGA. The state Government is demanding for inclusion of the other three districts under the Act so that more employment can be provided.
In the national level, out of 89.43 lakh persons who have demanded employment under the Act, 83.05 lakh has been provided employment so far. The Act was launched of February 2, 2006 in 200 backward districts in 27 states.
