Chennai, Oct 28 (UNI) The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today issued showcause notices to three party legislators, while sacking 18 office-bearers in five districts on charges of anti-party activities.

Party General Secretary K Anbazhagan, in a statement here, said following complaints of violating party discipline, showcause notices have been issued to Mr Appavu, Mr Udhayam Shanmugam and Mr K P Ramasamy.

Mr Anbazhagan said complaints have been received that the three MLAs had acted against the interest of the party in the indirect elections to the post of Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chairman and Deputy Chairman, today. They have been aksed to explain their stand.

He said 18 office-bearers, including six from Tiruvannamalai district, seven from Vellore, three from Madurai suburb and one each from Salem and Nagapattinam districts were sacked from the party for violating party discipline in today's elections. Partymen should not have any links with them, he said.

The action comes after party President and the Chief Minister had appealed to partymen to support and ensure the victory of candidates announced by the DMK and its allies in the indirect elections to Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen.

While Mr Karunanidhi had made a fervent appeal, Mr Anbazhagan had warned of severe action if they tried to sabotage the elections of official candidates.
