Guwahati, Oct 28: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded holding of an all party meeting to hammer out a peaceful solution to the ULFA issue.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here last night, the CPI(M) has also demanded holding of a direct talk between the Centre and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to find an amicable solution to the outfit's demand.

Expressing concern over the failure of the peace talks between the Centre and the ULFA, the memorandum said an all party meeting was essential to find ways and means for holding direct talks between the Centre and the outfit without any pre-condition.

''Through Army operations or administrative steps insurgency problems in the state could not be solved,'' the memorandum pointed out.

It said that general people of the state have been subjected to ''unnecessary torture'' from both the insurgents and the Army and para military- forces.
