Guwahati, Oct 28 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded an all-party meeting for finding the long-lasting solution to the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) problem.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here last night, the CPI(M) has also demanded holding of direct talks between the Centre and ULFA to find an amicable solution to the outfit's demand.

Expressing concern over the failure of peace talks between the Centre and ULFA, the memorandum said an all-party meeting was essential to find ways and means for holding direct talks between them without any pre-condition.

''Through army operations or administrative steps, the insurgency problem in the state could not be solved,'' the memorandum pointed out.

It said people in the state have been subjected to ''unnecessary torture'' from both insurgents and army and paramilitary forces.
