BJP rules out conducting any ''secret survey'' on UP polls

New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) The BJP today denied reports, suggesting that it had conducted a ''secret survey'' ahead of the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, and claimed the party has bright prospects in the forthcoming elections.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the party had not conducted any survey and hence there was no question of commenting on a newspaper report that suggested the party's strength would be halved from the present seats of 88 in the electoral hustle.

''According to the BJP, no single party would be in a position to call the shots and people of the state were disillusioned with the ''malfunctioning'' of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Samajwadi Party government,'' he alleged.

Mr Javadekar said the people saw no difference among the three parties -- the Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the SP-- as these were in favour of the postponement of the hanging of Mohammad Afzal, convicted for masterminding the December 2001 attack on Parliament by all the three courts, including the Supreme Court.

About Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee's campaigning for the local body elections in Lucknow, he said there was nothing wrong if the former Prime Minister worked for the success of party candidates in his Parliamentary constituency.

Yesterday, BJP Chief Rajnath Singh, who is also former Chief Minister of the state, also campaigned for the party candidates, he said.
