Bengal emerge champions, trounce Mizoram 3-0 to regain trophy
Chennai, Oct 28 (UNI) Bengal regained the Mir Iqbal Hussain trophy defeating holders Mizoram 3-0 in the final of the 29th Sub Junior National Football Championship at the Nehru stadium here today.
Bengal, who were the runners up last year, adapted themselves better to the difficult playing conditions with the turf rendered soggy due to the heavy rains.
As in the semi-final against Karnataka, Bengal owed their victory to forward Ajay Mullick, who struck a brace after a barren first half. Mullick put the team in the lead in the 57th minute and scored again in the 61st. Sanath Dhili scored the third goal in the 83rd minute.
Mizoram could have converted two clear chances in the second session. But good work under the cross piece by Bengal goal keeper Rana Chakrabarthy thwarted the Mizos.
