92,000 Mw power capacity in the 11th five-year-plan-shinde
Jalandhar, Oct 28 (UNI) Additional energy generation capacity of 92,000 MW will be created in the country, with stress on hydel power plants, by the end of the Eleventh Five Year plan, Union Energy Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said here today.
Talking to Mediapersons here tonight Mr Shinde said several state governments had not worked for creating additional power generation capacity during past 10 years but now the present UPA Government had been paying higher priority in this direction.
He said the government had planned to add generation capacity of 41,000 MW during the current 10th five year plan and generation capacity of 51000 MW would be created in 11th plan.
Mr Shinde said hydel power projects are the first choice of the government for achieving the task.
He said states of Himalayan range had a potential of generating 1,50,000 MW hydel power and the government had planned to tap this vast potential to bridge the gap in demand and availability of power.
He said North Eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh along had hydel power potential to the tune of 50,000 MW and work for tapping this potential had already been begun. He said Centre government had already signed an agreement with Arunachal Pradesh Government for purchasing 15,000 MW power for national grid.
