10,000 Reang tribes to come under Janashri Insurance

Agartala, Oct 28: More than 10,000 Reang tribe families in Tripura would come under the cover of Janashri Insurance scheme, a joint project of the Union and state governments introduced in the state in the 2004-05 fiscal.

Earlier, 15,000 such families were brought under the scheme and 33,000 BPL families of the tribes would be covered under this project, official sources said.

There are 33,000 Reang families in this hilly North-Eastern state and their total population is 1.33 lakh. The state government's main aim was to bring under this project all the 33,000 families.

For the 10,000 families, Rs 50 lakhs would be paid by the state government which was sanctioned by the Centre for this purpose, the sources added.
