We missed Inzy, Shoaib and Asif: Woolmer

Mohali, Oct 27 (UNI) Clearly unamused at the abject surrender by his batsmen, Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer missed redoubtable Inzamam-ul Haq in the batting line-up on a day when the wickets fell like nine pins and his side were run over by the South Africans for a semi-final berth.

''This was an abject surrender. Poor shot selection by one and all let us down,'' Woolmer said after the match in which Pakistan were crushed by 124 runs.

''We fielded well. bowled better than we did against New Zealand the other day. And although the South Africans have a world-class bowling, our batsmen lacked application and we lost the match we could've won,'' the coach said.

''We missed Inzamam. It would've helped if we had an extra batsman in the fold. But the fact remains that we lost because our batters did not apply themselves.'' And although Woolmer was all praised for his bowlers, he admitted that Paksitan could not finish off the Protea innings early after having them at a precarious 42 for five.

''We had them (South Africa) in trouble but the ball went out of shape. It was swinging well but with the second ball, we lost the momentum,'' he said and admitted, ''We missed Shoaib (Akhtar) and (Mohd) Asif. But we got to live without that and play with what we have.'' The coach also pointed out that how mere winning of toss could sway things ovewhelmingly in a team's favour in a day-night match.

''Of late we are seeing that a the toss is playing decisive role in the outcome of the match. Its almost becoming kind of lottery in the day-night matches,'' said Woolmer, whose side lost the toss and were asked to bowl in the tie they eventually lost.
