Bhopal, Oct 27 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh's main opposition Congress today sought clarification from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and state Public Health Engineering Minister Rampal Singh -- who is also a candidate for the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency bypoll -- about how his assets shot up from Rs 87,250 to crores of rupees in a few years.

''During the 2003 assembly byelection, Mr Singh declared total assets amounting to Rs 87,250. On the other hand, he has now declared assets exceeding Rs 5 crore. A calculation shows that he earned thousands per day after becoming a minister,'' Congress state spokesman Brijmohan Shrivastav told reporters at the party office here.

Pointing out that in 2003 Mr Singh had said agriculture was his ancestral profession, Mr Shrivastav added that the minister did not provide details of his 25 per cent share in his son's sugar factory, as stated in his present affidavit.

''After seeking legal opinion, the Congress will complain against Mr Singh at an appropriate forum,'' he said.
