Senior HP police official arrested on charges of Graft

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) The CBI today arrested a senior Himachal Pradesh police officer in Chandigarh for his alleged involvement in a multi-crore property scam in Punjab.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Bhupinder Singh Thind, a 1974 batch IPS, was arrested and taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation, CBI said.

Thind faces charges of misappropriation, criminal conspiracy, graft and forgery charges regarding purchase of property.

He allegedly has 17 residential plots in his name in Zirakpur town of Punjab on the outskirts of Chandigarh.

The accused had allegedly taken housing loans aggregating to Rs 3.45 crore from various banks by submitting forged documents and misrepresenting facts, and misutilised the loan amount for other purposes.

''He had not repaid the money'' the CBI said.

''Thind had taken a loan of Rs 10 lakh from the State Bank of India, Panchkula branch '' it added.

He had allegedly submitted forged salary certificates, forged bill of construction material, executed General Powers of Attorney in favour of various persons, of the plot which were already pledged before the banks.

''On a spot survey, it is revealed that only one house has been constructed at Shalimar Land Enclave, Zirakpur, Punjab by Thind,'' it added.
