'Sealing issue to be discussed in Assembly session'
New Delhi, Oct 27: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the issue of sealing of commercial units in Delhi would be comprehensively discussed in the coming session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, to be held from October 30.
''There will be a detailed discussion on the issue in the session. We feel there is an urgent need to discuss the matter at length to allow the public representatives to air their views,''Ms Dikshit said on the sidelines of a function which saw the signing of an MOU M/s. Petronet LNG Ltd. and Pragati Power Corporation Ltd. for supply of 7.3 Million Metric Standard Cubic Meter per Day (MMSCMD) Gas for gas-based power projects of Delhi to meet the demand of power in Delhi, especially during the Commonwealth Games 2010.
The Chief Minister's statement came following the statement by the Assembly Speaker Prem Singh that the Delhi govenment will bring a resolution in the coming session which proposes that the sealing drive in the national capital be halted till the 'Delhi Master Plan 2021' is finalised.
The Chief Minister has said the state Government is making all possible efforts to achieve a solution on the issue of sealing of commercial units before November 1, the day when the MCD is to begin sealing of shops in commercial units in residential areas of Delhi.
''We are trying to work out a solution wherein on the one hand the court orders are implemented and on the other relief is provided to the traders,''the Chief Minister told reporters yesterday after inspecting the Barakhamba Road-Indraprastha stretch of the line three of the Delhi Metro.
She said all proposals were being considered by the state Government to bring relief to the people of Delhi.
''We are hopeful of being able to evolve a solution to the problem before October 31,''she said.
The MCD has already announced its decision to begin sealing of commercial units from November. The MCD sealing drive would include in its purview the over 40000 shops whose owners had submitted affidavits in the court as well as those falling under the negative list mentioned in the September 7 notification of the Urban Development Ministry.
The traders have already announced several agitational measures to protest sealing of their units including calling a three day Delhi Bandh from October 30 and gherao of the Delhi Legislative Assembly on October 30.
The BJP has also lent its support to the Delhi bandh.
