Rs 444 cr sanctioned for AP under 'Urban Renewal Mission'

Vijayawada, Oct 27 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Kumari Selja today said Rs 444 crore was sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), of which Rs 132 crore has been allotted for Vijayawda city.

Participating an interactive session with Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the Kshetrayya auditorium, the minister said the Centre and the State Government were implementing many welfare schemes for upliftment of downtrodden sections and women to utilise the government schemes.

Ms Selja said Andhra Pradesh was among the states at the forefront implementing welfare schemes for the downtrodden and women. The state government has distributed bank linkage loans to the tune of Rs 1.04 crore to women SHGs on 'Pavala Vaddi'(three per cent interest) to 198 groups.

Thirty three per cent reservation during the tenure of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was introduced in the local body elections with a view to empower women.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi said about two lakh accredited social health workers were appointed in the country under the 'National Rural Health Mission 2000' in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh.
