Rains to batter TN for two more days, low pressure persists

Chennai, Oct 27 (UNI) Widespread rainfall continued to lash Tamil Nadu for the fourth day today as the trough of low pressure, extending from Gulf of Mannar to west central Bay off Andhra coast across south-west Bay off Tamil Nadu coast.

Under its influence, rain or thundershowers have been forecast at most places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hrs, Met office here said.

Heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely to occur over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Chennai and its suburbs will continue to experience intermittent rain, heavy at times, the Met office added.

Parangipettai recorded 14 cm of rainfall during the last 24 hrs ending at 0830 hrs today. It was followed by Cuddalore and Thiruvidaimaruthur 12 cm each, Kancheepuram, Sirkazhi and Chidambaram 11 cm of rainfall each.

Normal life was thrown out of gear in Chennai as incessant rain continued to lash the city since last night. Several low-lying areas were inundated, leading to traffic snarls and chaos.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Government has declared two-day holiday for schools and colleges in view of the heavy rains.
