Vidisha, MP, Oct 27 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has claimed that India's economy has deteriorated due to political crisis and the country is lagging behind in international matters.

Mr Yadav, while addressing an election meeting here yesterday, said public base of both the Congress and the BJP was on the downslide, while the Samajwadi Party was growing from strength to strength and has gained national party status due to its public welfare-oriented policies.

He pointed out that the SP -- with 40 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 15 MPs in the Rajya Sabha -- was compelled to support the centre in order to prevent political instability.

Mr Yadav said the Uttar Pradesh Government has taken a first of its kind initiative in the field of education in the country by making education up to class XII free.

''In the coming five years, Uttar Pradesh will be at the forefront of power generation and will provide electricity to Bihar and Madhya Pradesh,'' he added.
