Patkar holds mass hearing with Singur farmers
Singur (WB), Oct 27 (UNI) Social activist Medha Patekar today held a ''mass hearing'' here to get an account from farmers on conversion of agricultural land for setting up of Tata Motors' small car factory on agricultural land.
'' The mass hearing will give us an opportunity to get a first-hand account from people on the situation,'' she said.
The Narmada Bachao Andolan leader was accompanied by Ms.
Mahasweta Devi, the Gnanpeeth award winner litterateur.
She said the area had witnessed a '' mass movement'' in the past few months against conversion of agricultural land for industrialisation.
The mass hearing was organised by Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, a platform of several opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress and Congress.
Ms Patekar had earlier said the West Bengal government should not be secretive about land acquisition for the proposed Project and there should be talks with the farmers.
