New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora today reiterated that the fire at the hydro-treatment plant of the Reliance Petroleum Refinery will not affect the LPG supply in the country.

''I spoke to Reliance Industries head Mukesh Ambani. He has assured me that there will be no LPG shortage,'' Mr Deora told reporters at the sidelines of an MoU signed between Delhi Government and Petronet LNG Ltd regarding LNG supply.

However, he said the Government was even open to importing LPG if required.

''Right now we have stock for the next 15 to 16 days and if the situation warrants, we can also import LPG,'' he explained.

One person was killed and another injured in the fire which broke out at the hydro-treatment plant at the Reliance Petroleum refinery in Jamnagar on October 25.

Presently only one unit has been shut down out of the 40 units, a Reliance spokesperson said.

Till Wednesday evening, 6,229 tonnes of gas was supplied through the Gail's pipeline. Supply is continuing by road and there is no production loss, he added.

The fire had broken out at around 1030 hrs on Wednesday and was brought under control within two hours. The hydro-treatment plant was completely doused with water and except this plant, all the other plants were functioning normally.

The affected plant, according to preliminary reports, will take at least two weeks to resume operations.
