Newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra takes oath

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) Ms Supriya Sadanand Sule, daughter of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, took oath as a Member of Rajya Sabha today.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat administered her oath at a simple ceremony in his chamber.

Mr Pawar and other members of her family were also present on the occasion.

Ms Sule, 38, was elected to fill the vacancy following the death of NCP member Vasant Chavan in July.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Minister of State for Rural Development Suryakanta Patil were also present at the oath taking ceremony.

After the ceremony, Ms Sule said she would take up the cause of education, health and handicapped.

On the issue of suicides by farmers in Maharashtra, Ms Sule said she is also equally concerned about the problem as other conscious citizens of the country.
