Nayapatti murder case verdict deferred

Barrackpore, Oct 27 (UNI) An Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Barrackpore court today deferred the judgement of the 2004 -Nayapatti Murder case under Salt Lake police station in North 24 Parganas - till October 30.

Altogether 22 accused, including anti-socials like Dilip Banerjee alias Hatkata Dilip, were involved in the murder case. There were at least seven murder cases against Dilip.

The accused, who were produced before the court, included two soccer players Sashti Duley and Dipankar Ray and dancer Layla alias Suparna Adhikari. Layla was involved in the case as she was performing in a programme, arranged at Nayapatty in Salt Lake on June 27, 2004, where two people were killed.

Police after investigation rounded up several criminals, including prime accused Dilip Banerjee. Dilip was arrested from a Haripal hide out where Sashti Duley and Dipankar Ray allegedly helped him to escape arrest.

The Nayapatti incident followed by the arrest of Dilip and his associates in the case evoked sensation even in the political circles.
