Monitoring Cells to be set up to check price hike: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 27 (UNI) Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran today said the government would set up Monitoring Cells for checking rise in prices of essential commodities and its assessment.

The Cells would function under respective district collectors, he told reporters after a meeting of Departmental Heads and representatives of the traders and industry to discuss the issue on how to control price hike in the state.

Besides this, squads, with representatives from the Food and Civil Supplies, Health, Police and Tax Departments would also be formed, he added.

Mr Divakaran said a new system would also be introduced under the district collectors, to review the market rates in each month.

He said strict instructions had been issued to the officials concerned to check the movement of adulterated foods through railway stations and check posts.

The Minister also suggested that the Civil Supplies Corporation should strengthen its presence in the market and the functioning of the ration shops, to curb black marketing.
