Mithi river development phase II to begin on Nov 15: CM

Mumbai, Oct 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief MInister Vilasrao Deshmukh has said the second phase of Mithi river widening and deepening would begin from November 15.

Mr Deshmukh was speaking at a meeting convened to take stock of the project started after the unprecedented flooding in Mumbai last year. The Chief Minister also directed the officials from IIT Mumbai, MMRDA and BMC to complete the marking the river banks by November 7.

The Chief Minister said the project affected will be rehabilitated on land under the Urban Land Ceiling (ULC). The vacant land will be handed over to MMRDA and MHADA for constructing tenaments. The tenaments in Turbhe-Mandla area constructed by MHADA will be given to the project affected families. In the first phase, MHADA will make available 1612 tenaments, he explained.

In the second phase of Mithi river development project, projects worth Rs 1284.35 crore will be taken up for deepening and and widening (Rs 330 crore), pump and sluious gate (Rs 86 crore), security wall (Rs 226 crore), bridges (Rs 80 crore), sewage (Rs 197 crore), roads (Rs 25 crore), solid waste management (Rs eight crore) and beautification (rs 15 cr).

The meeting was attended by Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, MLAs Nawab Malik, Varsha Gaikwad, Janardhan Chandurkar, Chief secretary Dr D K Shankaran, BMC commissioner Johnny Joseph and senior government officials.
