Maoists threaten road workers in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Oct 27 (UNI) Armed Maoists have threatened a group of about 100 labourers engaged in the construction of a road at Karkeli Kerpe in Dantewara district of Chhattisgarh.

Police sources said people from Bade Margu, Marguda, Rengavaya and Murpal villages were forcibly taken by Naxalites to nearby forests. Later, the rebel leaders asked them to abandon road construction work or face the consequences.

After they were let off, nearly 100 villagers took shelter at Bedri police station this morning, demanding adequate security arrangements for them.

Police said there were no reports regarding any abduction by the Naxalites.
