Manipur tourism festival begins Nov 6

Imphal, Oct 27 (UNI) The Manipur government will organise a four-day tourism festival from November 6 to 9 here.

Addressing mediapersons, Director Tourism A Ibomcha yesterday said the festival would focus on arts, culture, flora and fauna, handicrafts, handloom, indigenous sports and eco-tourism potential of the state.

Meanwhile, Jet airways has announced a major discount for all flights to Manipur for this period. Tours of major tourist spots with proper guides will be organised.

India's first tourism adventure park undertaken by Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association at Lamdan was also inaugurated yesterday.

The aim will be to project Manipur as one of the favourite tourist destinations and generate a feeling of communal harmony, the Director said.

The festival would be organised in association with state Tourism department, Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association and other private tour operators.

Over 200 varieties of orchid, rich cultural heritage of Manipur, cuisine, traditional sports, white water rafting, para-sailing, rock climbing, hiking and caving expedition will be the major attraction of the festival.

Along with other indigenous sports events being organised, Polo will be in focus with Manipur being its birth place, Mr Ibomcha said.
