Work in government offices and other commerical establishments was affected due to general strike, called by the HC and supported by a number of other separatist and militant organisations.

Most of the educational institutions were closed.

A report from Baramulla said complete shut down was observed in the town, Sopore and Handwara, while it was partial in the frontier district of Kupwara.

The streets wore a deserted look as all shops and business establishments are closed and traffic off the roads.
