K'taka asked to help people in border areas
Bangalore, Oct 27: The recently-launched a political Kannada Nudi, Gadi Jagrithi Committee, led by actor and MLC 'Mukhyamantri' Chandru, today urged the Karnataka Government to take measures to improve the living conditions of Kannadigas in border areas.
Addressing newspersons here, Mr Chandru said the Committee had taken out a Jatha in the border areas of the State to ascertain the status of Kannadigas living there and found that they were deprived of basic facilities, including motorable roads, drinking water and schools. However, the majority of complaints pertained to absence of Kannada medium schools and posting of non-Kannadigas in Government offices.
He said the Committee would submit a charter of demands to the State Government after compiling the problems being faced by the people living in border areas and seek immediate remedial measures.
Stating that holding a special session of the Karnataka Legislature in Belgaum recently had helped in a big way to create a Kannada atmosphere in that border city, Mr Chandru urged the State Government to make it a regular affair.
He said the Committee proposed to convene a meeting of Lok Sabha members from the State to raise issues pertaining to the problems of the State and Kannadigas.
