Khanapur town peaceful
Belgaum, Karnataka, Oct 27 (UNI) The situation in Khanapur town, which witnessed incidents of stone pelting yesterday, remained peaceful since last evening with no untoward incident being reported.
Police had burst teargas shells to disperse violent mobs that pelted stones at people and moving vehicles and ransacked a few shops soon after the Marathi convention, organised by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, spearheading the agitation demanding merger of Marathi-speaking areas of Karnataka, including Belgaum city, with Maharashtra.
Several people, including 20 policemen, were injured and over 35 vehicles damaged in the violence.
Police sources told UNI over phone that over 100 people have been rounded up in connection with the violent incidents.
