KANK, Omkara lead GIFA list with 12 nominations each

Mumbai, Oct 27 (UNI) Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (KANK) and Omkara have been nominated in 12 different categories each for the three day Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) which is slated to be held in Kuala Lumpur from December seven.

KANK has been nominated for best film, best actor (Shah Rukh Khan), best actress (Rani Mukherjee), Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta (best supporting actor and actress), best music (Shankar-Ehsaan loy), best lyrics (Javed Akhtar), male playback (two nominations for Mitwa and KANK title track), female playback (Alka Yagnik), best choreographer (Farah Khan).

There are a total of 18 popular award categories in which trophies will be presented. Omkara has been nominated for best film, best actor (Ajay Devgan), best actress (Kareena Kapoor), best villain (Saif Ali Khan), best music (Vishal Bharadwaj), best director (Vishal Bharadwaj), best lyrics (Gulzar has two nominations for Saathi Re and title track), best male playback (Sukhwinder Singh), best female playback (Shreya Ghosal (O Sathi Re) and Sunidhi Chauhan (Beedi Jalai Le), best choreographer (Ganesh Acharya for Beedi).

Lage Raho Munnabhai will vie for top honours for best film, best director, best actor (Sanjay Dutt), best supporting actor (Arshad Warsi), best actor in comic role (Boman Irani) and best female playback (Shreya Ghosal for Pal Pal Har Pal).

Krrish has been nominated for best film, best director, best actor, best choreographer (Farah Khan), best villain (Naseeruddin Shah).

Kajol's comeback film Fanaa has been nominated in six categories.

Kajol (best actress), Kunal Kohli (best director), best music (Jatin Lalit), best lyrics (Prasoon Joshi), best music (Shaan and Kailash Kher for Chand Sifarish) and best choreographer (Saroj Khan).

Upen Patel (36 china town) and Kangana Ranaut (gangster) have won the best debut awards for 2006.

Similarly, in the technical awards section, Lage Raho... has bagged award for best story, best dialogue, Rang de basanti has won best screenplay, best editing, best background score, best art direction.

Omkara has won best cinematography award while Krrish has won best sound design and best action awards.

The awards presentation will be held on December nine. GIFA 2006 will have the world premier of 'Baabul' on December seven. The awards function will have performances by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan among others.

A celebrity football match, a fashion show, auction and charity dinner is also one of the highlights of the three day extravanganza.
