Ibobi assures help to farmers affected by hailstorms
Imphal, Oct 27 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has assured to help the farmers whose crops were destroyed by hailstorms.
Mr Singh has instructed the concerned officials to assess the losses suffered by the farmers at Pfutsero sub-division in the October 24 hailstorm.
The Chief Minister accompanied by senior cabinet ministers and government officials, yesterday visted the areas where the standing crops were destroyed by the storms.
An official estimate said that over 5000 hectares of paddy field were destroyed by hailstorms that hit Chandel and Senapati districts.
Reports of destruction of crops by strong wind and hailstorms were also reported from Imphal East, Thoubal district and Tamenglong since October 20 last. At Imphal-Tamelong road, crops worth about Rs 4 lakh ere also destroyed by stroms.
Local MLA Chandra said agricultural lands had also been submerged at Imphal east, Sanapat, Huikap, Andro, Poirou, Machengpat, Nongpok Loukon, Top Chingtha, Inamung Loukon and Uyumpok.
