Ghouse Basha takes oath as MLA

Chennai, Oct 27: Syed Ghouse Basha, who won the October 11 by-election in the Madurai Central Assembly constituency, was today administered oath as member of the House.

Assembly Speaker R Avudaiyappan administered the oath to the newly-elected DMK candidate at his chamber in the Secretariat here.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Electricity Minister 'Arcot' N Veerasamy, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin, PWD Minister Duraimurugan and School Education Minister Thangam Tennarasu were present on the occasion.

Mr Basha defeated his nearest AIADMK rival Rajan Chellappa by a margin of 31,085 votes in the by-election.

The by-poll was necessitated in the wake of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P T R Palanivel Rajan's demise.
