Ghatge to negotiate with Shetkari Sangathana over cane price demand

Kolhapur, Oct 27 (UNI) Maharashtra State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories chairman Vikramsinh Ghatge has been entrusted the responsibility of resolving the imbroglio arising out of the Shetkari Sangathana's demand for a higher price for sugarcane to the farmers that has halted the commencement of the crushing season in sugar mills.

This was decided at a meeting convened by cooperative sugar mills in Kolhapur which was attended among others by Mr Ghatge, NCP members of Parliament Sadashivrao Mandlik and Nivedita Mane and chairmen of the sugar factories.

Although the sugar mills in the district have fired their boilers to mark the commencement of the current crushing season, actual work has been held up as the Shetkari Sangathana has spearheaded an agitation in the district demanding that sugarcane growers be paid Rs 1,800 per tonne for their produce as the first instalment.

Today's meeting unanimously decided to entrust Mr Ghatge with the responsibilty of sorting out the issue.
