Evolve action plans for biodiversity management: minister

Itanagar, Oct 27 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Chowna Mein has called for evolving action plans for better bio-diversity management.

Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day national seminar on ''Biodiversity&Indigenous Knowledge System'' organised by the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here yesterday, Mr Mein stressed on sustainable utilisation of bio-resources and evolving ways and means for improving rural economy.

Emphasising on the role of farmers in agro forestry management, the minister elaborated on how intellectual property rights could protect the rich bio-diversity of the North East.

While briefing about the initiatives and efforts made by the university for establishment of the Centre of Bio-diversity, RGU acting Vice-Chancellor Prof T Mibang emphasised on the greater role of indigenous knowledge system and culture in the bio-diversity management vis-a-vis economic empowerment of rural people.
