DG of Mines (Safety) and his son drown in Andaman

Port Blair/Dhanbad, Oct 27 (UNI) Director General of Mines (Safety) Bhaskar Bhattacharya and his son drowned in the Bay of Bengal in Andaman today.

DIG, Andaman, Sandip Goel here said Mr Bhattacharya along with his son Siddharth and wife went to the famous Radhanagar sea beach in Havlock island for taking a bath when the deceased fell down after being hit by a strong wave, sustaining severe injuries.

They were rushed to hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

He is survived by one son and wife.

Mr Bhattacharya, who joined as Deputy Director of Mines (Safety) in Dhanbad way back in 1981, rose to the post of Deputy Director General of Mines (Safety) in Nagpur.

In the year 2004, he became Director General of Mines (Safety) in Dhanbad and was due to retire in 2011.
