Centre on trade liberation with Myanmar and Bangladesh

Aizawl, Oct 27 (UNI) With the opening of Nathula Pass, Union Commerce ministry has initiated move for liberalisation of trade with Myanmar and Bangladesh following persuation of NE states.

Official sources here said that considering the potential, Centre has decided trade liberation with Myanmar and duty free trade with Bangladesh after reviewing the infrastructure and with Ministers in-charge of Industries of the region recently.

Currently 22 items are on the list for trade with Myanmar and ministry would enhance the list substantially while duty free trade with Bangladesh would be studied by the ministry, industry department officials stated.

They said commerce ministry would upgrade 13 Land Custom Stations (LCS) into Integrated Check Points (ICP) throughout India of four are in the region, which would facilitate single window channel for immigration, customs clearance and other trade related issue in the border.

Meanwhile, North Eastern Council (NEC) sources here informed that Hindustan Aeronautical Limited, Bangalore, has submitted a Detailed Project Report to the Defense Ministry to start air (20-seater Dornier) service in the region, but it is awaiting clearance from the defense ministery.
