Cache of explosives recovered from Sutlej

Ferozepur, Oct 27 (UNI) Army today recovered a cache of explosives from river Sutlej near Hussainiwala border in Punjab and has sealed the area.

Confirming the recovery, Army spokesman Naresh Vij told UNI in Jalandhar that eight 81-M mortar bombs and, 50 rounds of machine gun ammunition and other arms were found while cleaning the river by the security forces.

The cleaning operation in this sector was being taken for the first time after the 1971 Indo-Pak War and it was yet to be ascertained whether the ammunition bore marks of India or Pakistan, Army sources said.

The Army cordoned off the area and called in bomb disposal squad from Jalandhar.
