BHEL wins order for Petcoke-fired CFBC boilers

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 27: The public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured an order for setting up a 99 MW captive powere plant on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis worth Rs 950 crore, the highest valued single order ever won by the company for setting up such a plant.

According to a BHEL release today, Bharat Oman Refinery (BORL) has placed the order for setting up 3x33 MW (99 MW) captive power plants at Bina in Madhya Pradesh. The plant would be equipped with eco-friendly, state-of-the-art circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC) boilers, specifically designed to utilize petcoke fuel.

Won against international competitive bidding, the order assumed significance as it was the first order for petcoke-fired CFBC boilers for BHEL. The eco-friendly power plant would meet the process steam and power requirement of the upcoming refinery. While the first unit was slalted for commissioning in 26 months, the project would be competed within 30 months.

The release said BHEL's scope for work in the project covered design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commssioning of the power plant in addition to complete civil work. Major equipment to be supplied included 3x33 MW steam turbine generators and CFBC boilers of 275 tons per hour capacity with petcoke-limestone handling systems and ash handling system, associated auxiliaries and other plant equipement.

BHEL's plants at Tiruchirapalli, Hyderabad, Ranipet, Bhopal, Jhansi and Electronics Division - Bangalore would supply equipment for the project, complete civil work, erection and commissioning of the plant would be carried out by BHEL's power sector - Western region, Nagpur, it added.
