New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) The government today approved four-laning of the 35-km-long Amritsar-Wagah section on NH-1 on a BOT basis at an estimated cost of Rs 207 crore.

Briefing reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi said the estimated expenditure of Rs 207 crore would include cost of land acquisition, utility shifting, rehabilitation and resettlement and consultancy.

The minister said upgradation of the existing road would improve traffic safety and provide faster movement of vehicles with improved riding quality and time. Consequently, this would reduce both the vehicle operating cost and fuel consumption, he added.

More importantly, it would provide linkage to other high density corridors of economic importance as well as places of tourist interest and pilgrimage centres, he said.
