AIADMK cadre died fearing police harassment: Jaya
Chennai, Oct 27 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today alleged that a party office-bearer died of ''sudden heart attack'' last night after he feared harassment from the police.
In a statement here, Ms Jayalalithaa said T Vadivelu suffered a heart attack after learning the police were on way to his house to arrest him.
''After arresting five party office-bearers in the city last night, the Otteri Police obtained Vadivelu's address. On hearing this, he suffered a heart attack and died en route to the hospital,'' she said.
She was deeply pained to learn the ruling DMK 'with the help of police, was unleashing violence against innocent party cadre and harassing them,' she said and announced an exgratia of Rs 50,000 to the bereaved family.
After the ''violence-marred'' October 13 Chennai Corporation elections, the police were foisting cases on partymen and torturing them mentalally, she alleged and condemned the police action.
The AIADMK leader also demanded the police desist from harassing the party cadre.
