Welfare boards for shop, small plantation, jewellery workers

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 26 (UNI) The government proposes to set up new Welfare Boards for employees working in shops and commercial establishments, small scale plantations and jewellery manufacturing units, Kerala Labour Minister P K Gurudasan told the Assembly today.

In a written reply, he said the the government was taking all steps for setting up welfare boards at the earliest and a Bill for constituting a welfare board for employees in shops and commercial establishments had been passed in the Assembly.

Besides, the government would also consider constituting another welfare board for the benefit of coconut pluckers, he said.

Mr Gurudasan said about 12,08,668 construction workers had become members in the Construction Workers Welfare Board and it had to collect about Rs 33.71 crore as cess.
