Agartala, Oct 26 (UNI) Two Tripura State Rifle(TSR) jawans were killed by suspected National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) cadres in an ambush at Sindhu Kumar Para in Dhalai district today.

The jawans were deputed at a railway construction site in Longtarai valley.

Official sources said armed NLFT (Biswa Mohan faction) cadres ambushed the jawans when they were going to the railway construction site, killing two of them on the spot.

Police said the militants fired at the personnel with automatic weapons and hurled grenades at them. They retreated after the jawans retaliated. The rebels seized one AK-47 series rifle and some rounds of magazines.

However, no casualty was reported on the militants' side, police said.

Altogether six personnel were killed within a week by banned outfits. This was the third attack on security forces.

Inspector General of Police(IGP)-Law and Order C Balasubramanian, camping in Dhalai district currently, reviewed the law and order situation with top officials. Superintendent of Police(SP) Arindam Nath was also present.

Mr Balasubramanian has instructed Dhalai Police for proactive counter-insurgency operations against the militants.

Senior police and the TSR officials have rushed to the spot with reinforcement. The area has been cordoned off and a massive search operation was on to nab the ultras, police added.

SP(operation) Nepal Chandra Das told UNI that today's incident has exposed the dastradly acts of the militants.

''We are taking the matter very seriously. Top police officials have already rushed to the spot. We are offensive and will deal with the matter accordingly,'' Mr Das said.
