Tribal woman accused of witchcraft

Badwani, MP, Oct 26 (UNI) A 60-year-old tribal woman has been labelled a 'witch' and harassed by some people in Pisnawal village of this district.

Alleging a threat to her life, Kamlibai's relatives added that the police did not file a report.

''Three days back, I sat beside deranged 35-year-old widow Hitri Bai after she fell unconscious. Since then her kin are harassing me.

My life is in danger, my husband Dhana is away and anything can happen,'' said Kamlibai.

Hitri's family members alleged that Kamlibai's ''black magic'' caused Hitri to lose her mental balance. On October 24, about two dozen tribals pelted stones at Kamlibai's home.

The Pisnawal panchayat lodged a complaint at Sendhwa Police Station yesterday.

''A terrorised Kamlibai is confined to her house along with her three children,'' the victim's younger brother Bholya told mediapersons. Kamlibai also approached the police along with village watchman Inder Singh.

''I have spoken to the villagers and action will be taken only after the complaint is probed,'' said Station House Officer G S Bhadauria.
