Tension in Muzaffarnagar after groups exchange fire

Lucknow, Oct 26 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Badaut area of the Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh after two groups clashed over possession of a piece of land, which is part of a graveyard.

The Home department said three people were injured in firing and stone pelting. ''The situation now is peaceful and under control,'' an official claimed.

The trouble started when two men entered into an argument over possession of land belonging to a graveyard.

Almost 20-yrs-ago, an agreement was reached between members of two communities to provide 10 bighas of land for the contruction of a temple. While the land was handed over, a dispute continued which resulted in today's clash.

The injured -- Tirath Pal, Gafoor and Jamil -- were sent to hospital for first aid.
