Sri Lankan delegation on four-day visit to India
New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) A 15-member All Party Representatives Committee (APRC) delegation from Sri Lanka is on a four-day visit to India, beginning today.
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse has set up the committee to find a lasting political settlement to the ethnic problem in the island nation.
The APRC will review various models of devolution, according to a Ministry of External Affairs spokesman here today.
In India, the delegation will be briefed by the Ministry of Law and Ministry of Home Affairs on the basic features of the Indian Constitution, Centre-State relations and the working of grassroot institutions such as the panchayat.
''After interacting with the relevant Ministries and experts here, the delegation will visit Karnataka and Kerala to view the functioning of the grassroots institutions of our democracy,'' the official spokesman said.
''The visit is evidence of our willingness to assist Sri Lanka in finding a negotiated, political settlement to the ethnic problem which would satisfy all sections of its society,'' he added.
