Snow in Lahaul Spiti district of HP
Shimla, Oct 26 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh is in the grip of a cold wave following fresh spell of mild snowfall in the tribal district of Lahaul Spiti despite a bright and sunny day in the other parts of the state, the met office said today.
Though the mid and lower hills of the state had another bright and sunny day today, day and night temperatures were a few degrees below normal for this month of the year, it said.
Rain and snow clouds were hovering over the tribal districts of Kinnuar and Chamba and official sources said the higher reaches were likely to receive snowfall during the night.
According to the met office, day and night temperatures in Lahaul Spiti district were being recorded between minus four to five degree Celsius with Patsio in the district recording night temperatures below freezing point.
Almost all-high altitude areas in the district were engulfed in a thick layer of fog and met office after the snowfall, plummeting day and night temperatures in the district, it said.
Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded a night temperature of 1.7 degree Celsius and official sources said water sources in the high altitude areas were beginning to freeze during the night.
A spokesman for the Border Road Organisation (BRO) today said the Manali-Sarchu and Tandi-Kullu-Sansari road would remain closed for vehicular traffic from November 1 onwards due to the closure of Rohtang and Baralacha Passes.
