Rs 92 crore being spent to increase green cover in Lahaul Spiti

Shimla, Oct 26 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Govenrment is spending a sum of Rs 92.10 crore under the Desert Development Project to increase green cover in Lahaul and Spiti district of the state, Lok Sabha MP from Mandi constitutency Pratibha Singh today said.

Under the project, 190 watershed projects were being executed in Lahaul valley, while 133 projects in Spiti Sub Division of the district to bring desert area under green cover, she said, while presiding over the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting at Keylong.

She said 57,000 mandays were generated under the rural self employment programme by spending a sum of Rs 68 lakh during the last financial year, adding that Rs 7.99 lakh were spent on providing 5,808 mandays till today.

Twenty three houses were constructed, at an estimated cost of Rs 4.33 lakh, under the Indira Awas Yojna in the district last year, she said, adding that nine more houses would be constructed under the scheme this year.

Ms Singh also also reviewed financial and physical targets fixed by the Centre under the various centrally sponsored welfare schemes.
