'Road show' from Nov 8: Amarinder

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh said the first phase of the proposed road show of the Congress party would now commence from November 8.

The Chief Minister told mediapersons here today that the programme would start from Nangal via Sri Anandpur Sahib to Talwandi Sabo on Guru Gobind Singh Marg after a week long programme of Punjab Congress chief Shamsher Singh Dullo of holding 'Jan ampark' rallies from October 31 to November 7 at the block level to percolate the achievements of the government.

After that the Congress party would hold a massive state level rally at Ludhiana on November 14, he added.

He said that the road show in the state would cover a distance of 5700 km within 38 days. He however, said that it would continue for three to four days and after a break it would again resume on the scheduled route.

He clarified few destinations would be covered jointly by him and Mr Dullo and remaining individually depending upon the programme.

Referring to the issue of legislation on police reforms as per the directions of the Supreme Court, Capt Singh said that the state government was seriously contemplating to enact legislation by January third next year as directed by the apex Court and this act would be implemented in the state after careful consideration of the various provisions in the Central legislation.

To another question about the announcement of package for the state by the Prime Minister during his proposed visit to Punjab, Capt Singh said that it was not expected of him to bring a cheque book along every time he visits Punjab.

''Dr Singh is son of Punjab and he is free to visit Punjab anywhere at any time as per his convenience'', said Capt Singh.

He further said that the Prime Minister had sanctioned projects worth Rs 10,000 crore, highest ever in the history of the last 60 years in just two years.
