Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) Maharashtra BJP president Nitin Gadkari today said he has convened an all party meeting at Nagpur on October 29 to discuss about the increasing suicides of farmers in Vidarbha.

In a statement issued here, Mr Gadkari said it was 'unfortunate' that the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Prabha Rau described this all party meet as 'Nautanki' .

He further said despite various packages announced by the state government and the Prime Minister, the suicides were continuing which indicated that the farmers were not benefitted directly by the package.

Mr Gadkari further said he had always stressed for making the farmers completely debt free and giving loans to them at reduced rates to control the suicides.

He said he was of the view that efforts should be made so that cotton would get the rate of Rs 2700 per quintal and rice would get the rate of Rs 1000 per quintal and for that this all party meet has been convened.

He also said it was unfortunate that the farmers from the state were resorting to suicides despite the state leaders were representing ministeries of Agriculture, Home and PMO at the centre.
