Police to file criminal cases for Kathunangal clash
Jalanhdar, Oct 26 (UNI) Punjab Director General S S Virk today said that criminal cases will be filed on the basis of video screening, against the guilty in an armed clash between supporters of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) in Kathunangal yesterday.
Talking to reporters here today Mr Virk said that there was no no failure of any sort on the part of the police or the intelligence which had played its proper role keeping in view sensitive nature of the religious function which was organised by SGPC.
He said that police had undertaken drill to disarm the participants of the function but people had somehow succeeded in infiltrating with sharp edged weapons.
He denied reports of firing in air, by miscreants during the clash.
He said that police avoided stern preventive actions and arrests only to avoid undue interference in the religious affairs.
However, he assured that all appropriate measures would be takrn in future to prevent reoccurance of such ugly situations.
